Your trade's numbers, not ours

18/08/2026

The benchmarks Company costs measures you against are no longer fixed to café figures. Pick the trade closest to your business - restaurant, pub and bar, gym and studio, salon and barber, or café - and move any band to your own numbers. Where a trade has no published figure for a metric, the band is deliberately left blank rather than invented. Insights stops hiding the rest of the week, so Scheduled now shows the plan you actually built, with the variance still measured against the part that has finished. Both pages gained a Yesterday period, and the Company costs trend chart moved up under the date filter.

Highlights

  • Benchmarks that match your trade - "Against the trade" was fixed to UK independent café figures, which is the wrong yardstick for most businesses running a rota. Settings now carries a trade picker with five sourced profiles - café, restaurant, pub and bar, gym and studio, salon and barber - plus a blank Custom. Every band is editable, so an owner-operated site and one carrying a full management layer are not held to the same labour percentage.
  • Blank where nobody publishes a figure - a gym has no published cost-of-goods range and a salon has no prime cost. Those rows show your number without a verdict and say why, rather than scoring you against a range we made up. Set your own band and the verdict appears.
  • Scheduled means the whole period again - mid-week, Scheduled counted only the shifts that had already ended or were in progress, so a Monday morning read as though most of the week's rota had vanished. It now shows the plan you built. The variance still compares against the part that has finished, because two days clocked against a seven-day plan would report -70% every Monday, and each figure now says which it is.
  • Yesterday, on both pages - the last day that is finished and cannot change is usually the first one an owner checks. Company costs and Insights both have it. A one-day range now reads as a single date rather than repeating it twice.
  • The trend moved up - the Company costs trend chart sits directly under the date filter now, names the range it is showing, and centres a single-day range instead of pinning it to the left edge.

Changes

Features

  • feat(company-costs): trade profiles with editable benchmark bands, set under Settings; the benchmark panel and the trend chart both read from that one setting.
  • feat(company-costs): Yesterday date preset.
  • feat(insights): Yesterday period preset, always a finished period so the part-period caveats never apply to it.

Fixes

  • fix(insights): Scheduled shows the whole period's plan instead of only the elapsed part; the variance keeps its elapsed base and both are now labelled. Sorting the table by scheduled hours already used the whole-period figure while the cell showed the elapsed one - those now agree.
  • fix(insights): a one-day range renders as a single date instead of "Mon 4 May - Mon 4 May".

Maintenance

  • refactor(company-costs): the trend chart moved directly under the date filter and echoes the applied range in its heading.
