Cover images, and a guide for shops

Every post on the blog now has its own cover image, and there is a new guide for independent shops on staffing around footfall rather than opening hours. It covers reading your own hourly till data, what to do with the quiet mid-week hour, the lone-working and under-18 rules that set a floor under the rota, and what changes when the guaranteed hours reforms land in 2027.

Highlights

  • A new guide for independent shops - most small shop rotas are built to the opening hours, not to when customers actually turn up. The guide walks through exporting four weeks of hourly till data, laying the rota over it, and reshaping the three quietest hours before cutting anything.
  • Cover images on every post - the blog index and each post now open with their own illustration rather than a plain panel.
  • The lone-working question, answered properly - the quiet hour is the one owners are tempted to run on single cover. The guide sets out what HSE expects before anyone works alone, and why the risk assessment comes before the rota change.
