Two new guides, for salons and for gyms

24/09/2026

The blog gains a guide for salons and barbers on covering no-shows with split shifts and on-call staff without paying for time you did not need, and one for gyms and studios on staffing a 6am to 9pm day without breaking the 11 hour rest rule. Both go into what the Working Time rules actually require, where the unpaid gap in a split shift is legal and where it is not, and how to cover a freelance instructor or a stylist who calls in sick.

Highlights

  • Salon no-show cover - the unpaid gap in the middle of a split shift is legal only if the person is genuinely free to leave. The guide sets out that test, the difference between on-call time that must be paid and time that need not be, and why rent-a-chair is a different question entirely.
  • The 15 hour gym day - a 6am open and a 9pm close cannot be the same person, and the guide shows why the long day breaks itself on paper before it breaks in practice. It covers splitting the day into blocks rather than around individuals, freelance instructor cover, and what the 48 hour opt-out does and does not solve.
  • Lone working, in both - the opener and the closer are usually alone. Both guides treat that as a rota constraint with a written risk assessment behind it, not an afterthought.

Worth knowing

  • Nothing changes inside the app. This release is the public site only. Your rotas, clock-ins and timesheets are untouched.

Changes

Features

  • content(blog): a guide on salon no-show cover, split shifts and on-call pay.
  • content(blog): a guide on early open and late close rota patterns for gyms and studios.

Fixes

  • fix(blog): the post generator kept re-picking a topic whose post was already written and waiting for review, and the cover image step was being skipped on every automatic run. Both are corrected.
